What is God?
Things are going to get real hectic around here. Graduation day is on Saturday and all hell will break loose.

The Dark Knight is my movie of 2008. :p
Disapppointment
Having just watched Forbidden Kingdom, I cringe and wish it was more aptly named, Forgotten Kingdom.
It was unbearably stupid for a show that I put so much hope on. Jet Li, Jackie Chan,… COME ON! I expected a whole lot more from them! I guess if I looked at it from the perspective of a 6 year old, it would probably have played out a lot better for me. Currently as a cynical 25-year old, all I see is a goofy, clichéd B-grade kung-fu movie with a storyline that is as strong as Micheal Angarano’s acting (it isn’t).
Major deal breakers for me were ;
- Jackie Chan’s atrocious make-up job as an old man.
- Jackie Chan’s atrocious dreadlocks, must be some new fad in ancient China.
- Pan-dimensional travel storyline to return the monkey god’s rod.
- Western bastardization of an otherwise pretty good Chinese tale.
- Mind boggling kung-fu training montage which turns a weakling white-boy into a ruff-n-tuff kung-fu master.
- Weak boy takes on bullies? Very original.
- Stupid looking villains with crazy powers.
- Jet Li’s atrocious english.
- Characters that just pop-out of nowhere and join the party.
- heck, this list can go on forever.
Haish,… it is indeed a pity. The female love interest acted by Liu Yifei was somewhat eye candy but her character could have been removed and none could have told the difference. Even the fight scenes were lousy. Either Jackie Chan’s getting too old or he’s relying too much on his rope-team. Some of the flying bits were quite absurd.
So much for their first collaboration.
Sri Ayutthaya
Sri Ayutthaya… that quaint wooden place somewhere on the way to Damansara Heights / Bangsar or better identified as ‘next to Victoria Station’. It was years of curiousity that brought us to try it out and we weren’t disappointed.

Not quite sure what the “Beyond the Ordinary” was for.

We had the Green Curry Beef, Lychee Roast Spring Chicken, Fried Soft-shell crab & a Seafood Tom-Yum to share. More often than never, Tom Yum goes to waste. Also ordered a ‘Coconut & Lychee Ice Blend‘ and an amazingly sour Lime Juice. It was as though they’d forgotten he concept of water and sugar.
The Green Curry was good and thick as it should be. The soft-shell crabs were delicious in it’s delicate batter and the spicy sauce that came with it was excellent. We both loved the Lychee sauce that the roasted spring chicken was sitting in, but the meat was slightly overcooked. ( I dislike breast-meat so I’m biased ).
The Tom-yum was good, I’m probably too used to the usual paste-based soups you get in the mamaks nearby so the stuff here was pretty fresh. Even the rice was light and fluffy.

Slightly pricey but well worth it, even if we did get a Bangladeshi waiter that kept on telling us he’s new. Service was prompt and with smiles.

Some weird Thai decor.

Testing Yein’s brother’s camera capacity to snap through tinted glass. We were sitting on the balcony upstairs and I’ve got to say, it wasn’t such a cool idea. It got rather warm especially after the spicy food.

Side-effects of the Tom Yum. We killed 2 cats, 12 mat-rempits a scrawny dog and an inebriated drunk.
All in all, it was pretty good. Of course for that price, one might easily find just as good food & service elsewhere but we enjoyed ourselves and went home satiated (slightly bloated for me).

Job reflections
Before entering my current job as a lecturer, I always had the urge to learn more as well as teach. I am hoping to take my masters sometime next year but the off-shoot is, I will be bonded for 6 years. That is a pretty long time. Minus the two years of which I’ll be studying, I guess 4 years ain’t so bad. I hope!
I’m beginning to like academia, it’s not as easy as most might think (or as I too thought initially). Having students means having to know ‘more’ than them in every aspect, and that is tough! In some ways, it is also challenging yourself to further your own studies as you learn as you teach. I guess I can live with that.
6 years,… sigh. That would mean I’ll only be free when I’m 32. *whoo*
Here is a weirded up Sand-Rider, I had the Spanish Don Quixote de la Mancha on my mind when I was drawing this. Gave him a trident for which he can also use to feed his scaly mount which I shall name Rocinante in honor of Quixote’s horse.

UTK Concepts
It has been sometime since I posted up some images, this is because of policies. Stupid policies that prevent me from access my ftp server at the staffroom. I guess I should be thankful that I can at least use the internet to a certain extent.
These guys are part of a project in the works. Part of Malaysia’s Unit Tindakan Khas, our equivalent of the United States S.W.A.T. team. Also coincidentally part of the unit which blew up a certain foreign model which is still a hot topic in the newspapers.
Here they are in some ‘action’ shots.

Color studies. Cool black or erm,.. purple. I have that whole ‘Team Fortress 2‘ look going on in my head when I drew this. Personally I prefered the Black, but then it reminds me of my own depressing dress-code.

Peow peow peow,.. more to come,.. perhaps
MKVSDC??
Mortal Kombat vs the DC Universe? link
How is that even possible?
Despite the dubious matchup, this does look intriguing.
Not sure about the graphics and gameplay. From the screenies, I can only see the likes of Superman, Flash, Catwoman, Shang Tsung, Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Sonya. Looks pretty slap-dash.
My little plant has passed on and given up the fight. I HAVE A NEW SMALL PALM TREE IN A POT! and a little cactus to go with it. If those die, then I guess I am indeed the Grim Reaper of small household plants.
Diablo 3
Rejoice!
Diablo 3 hath been revealed and it is looking good albeit somewhat similiar to it’s predecessors.
Still full of hack’n’slash goodness, the gameplay trailer on the website reveals extremely well-done animation and physics! Even if I wasn’t a true hardcore fan of the first two Diablos, this looks like another must-get title for me.
Their website is also another plus for them. It’s amazing!
Gaming Frenzy
I’ve decided to bring my XBOX360 out of hibernation and work it a little. I’ve just picked up a second-hand copy of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six : Vegas 2. I picked that over the much praised Call of Duty IV but it remains to be seen whether I made the right choice.
These are definately on my ‘must buy’ list -
- Fallout 3 (XBOX360)
- Fable 2 (XBOX360)
- Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning (PC)
- Majesty 2 : Fantasy Kingdom Sim (PC)
- Dungeon Runners (MMO) (PC)
These looks good but will depend on budget. YES I actually have a monthly allocation for games! How nerdy!
- GTA IV (XBOX360)
- Spiderman : Web of Shadows (XBOX360) Looks pretty sweet.
My weedy plant
Was just surfing around and came across this blog header
“I woke up this morning still alive, so I’m pretty cheerful” Woo!
I can’t even remember which blog I got it from or what it was about but somehow it just seemed like such a right statement. It gave me that whole ‘we-take-life-for-granted’ feeling and I think I really should appreciate life a little more. Funny how a little sentence can change your perceptions and recharge your interest in life.
It is ironic that my table plant has died.
If it were an animal-plant, it would be a camel. The weedy thing absorbs water like a sponge! It was on Friday when I forgotten to water the poor thing and when I got back into the office on Monday, it had shrivelled. I tried to revive it with an extra helping of fresh water and it left it overnight.
The next morning, TWO stalks were poking it’s head up high in defiance to my neglect. IT WILL SURVIVE! The rest are still rather limp but it looks promising. It might still make it with sufficient prayers and well wishes.
I bet my plant is pretty cheerful…
I shall name it Lazarus.
