Oillandia

This is something I got from a forwarded email, it’s about Dubai’s incredible rate of development. Truly Oil money is all there is to it. Oil seems to be the one substance that can make or break economies far more than anything else. It is scary to think of what will happen when this finite resource one day runs dry.

The dinosaurs gave their lives so that one day we might pump their black gooey remains from the earth.

Frightening.

This is a picture of that nutjob that bought the no.1 license plate in the United Arab Emirates. So there is such a thing as having TOO much money…

Amongst the whole list of amazing factual tit-bits that came along with the email :

-The World Islands, 300 islands each at a cost of $25-30million (9bil)
-The Burj-al-Arab hotel,.. the only 7 star hotel in the world.
-Hydropolis, the world’s first underwater hotel
-The Burj Dubai,… 800 meters. 40% taller than the next tallest. Taipei101.
-Dubailand,.. twice the size of Disney and expected visitors at 200,000 a day.
-They even have that crazy indoor skiing thing.
-And apparently they’ve got a spaceport in the works.

Well at least Malaysia has got the first ASTRONAUT. Which has been rumoured to be not-ideal which is why he isn’t in the news anymore. No longer a hero it seems.

It is like every nutcase engineer with an impossible dream is flocking to Dubai and getting the crazy funds to build their crazy towers. It’s good in a way but at that speed of progress, you really never know what is it going to be like in 10 years time.

Damned nick of time.

I registered to vote late hoping that I wouldn’t make it for this year’s elections. Turns out a quick check at http://daftarj.spr.gov.my/daftarbi.asp shows that I am! Somehow I bloody made it to vote. You can check by entering your IC in the database. I’m told they usually need about 3 months from registration date to be included.

Polling district : Damansara Jaya Selatan.

State Assemblies – Damansara Utama

Parliamentary – Petaling Jaya Utara

What more, I was making fun of YY for registering and having to vote. *Sigh*. While we should exercise our right to vote, whatever happened to our right “not” to vote. On the bright side, maybe we’ll get an off-day out of this, which doesn’t really matter since I’m somewhat unemployed. How depressing, I shall blame the government for that.

Well to all those going to SRK to vote, I shall see you there!

Wisdom Thoof

Wisdom teeth, I’ve always wondered what they’re for. My girlfriend recently had hers removed. I initially thought that the process was called a ‘root canal’ but have since learned otherwise. The wisdom tooth surgery is equally as gross.

It involved slitting open the gums to find the tooth and somehow drilling the crusty bugger out. Based on second hand experience, when the local anesthetics wears off, the pain is bloody awful. I once had 4 teeth removed when I put on my braces years ago. Somehow that didn’t hurt all that much. Only a dull throbbing after the whole process. Wisdom teeth removal is a whole other matter.

The tooth even had bits of ‘gums’ on it. Flooking gross. After the operation, the dentist stitched it up and scheduled another appointment to remove the stitches a week later. I cringe when I hear the words, stitches, needles, gushing blood and injections.

I guess ‘What are Wisdom Teeth for?” should be added to my list of things to ask the Creator when I do meet him/her. For now, I personally think they’re designed to hook your false teeth to when all others fall out.

As for YY, no Yee Sang for you this New Year. :(

Sweeney Todd

Happy Chinese New Year to all you’s peeples out there that do occasionally drop by and visit. It’s going to be another busy new year and I can only say I’m glad my hometown is right here in good ol’ Selangor. I can’t imagine the poor people having to sit through hours of traffic jams just to get somewhere. KL is going to be super sweet and empty.

Also watched SWEENEY TODD : The Demon Barber of Fleetstreet.

Another creative piece by Tim Burton, this musical (is it classified as a musical?) revolves around nutcase Johnny Depp killing people in his quest for revenge on a corrupt judge responsible for the the royal screwing of his otherwise great life.

Severus Snape leaves gaying with Harry Potter to play Judge Tarpin, a sex-fiend that falls in love with Todd’s (Depp) wife. He gets rid of Sweeney, rapes his wife and takes Todd’s daughter in as his own. This is usually sufficient reason for any man to become a homicidal maniac and the story revolves around the tale of Todd’s revenge with a ironic twist at the end.

I personally enjoy a good crime story and Todd was a real life serial killer. It might interest you to know that the real Sweeney Todd’s life was a lot more dull than the movie makes it out to be.

You can read the whole case here but I’ve summed it up for the lazy. (more…)
