Smiteth thee

The God of Lightning has once again deemed my modem of being unworthy and has smiteth the shit out of it again.

This brings me to having buy a new Aztech Wireless Modem/Router for RM210 and I have to say I am pretty pleased with it. Pretty stupid-proof instructions and I’ve even secured it! No more nicking wireless internet from the neighbours for me! From now on, it’s smooth wireless sailing babeh!

I have also (with Y’s assistance) managed to hook up my laptop with my XBOX360 by using a network cable. Pretty easy but somehow I’m still having problems with some IP settings. I haven’t even gone online to test out the XBOXLive as it needs a Singaporean address to sign on. WHAT DISCRIMINATION IS THIS? Until the Prime Minister puts Malaysia on the list of XBOX friendly servers, I shall continue to bitch and whine about his poor performance right until election day.

Which by the way, I shall not be voting this year because I signed up too late. (hopefully) I’m really not too keen on voting as any choice I make seem somewhat futile. Corrupt or potentially corrupt?

Battle of Epic Proportions

There being no one else around, I went to answer the doorbell. The back-door neighbour came around to warn us of a snake that was seen slithering into my compound. Freaky shit I tell you. She even went on to describe it as being as thick as her wrist. I deduced that it must have been some sort of ular sawa or something pythonish. It sent chills down my spine.

Imagine something like that somewhere in your garden.

I woke up the slumbering sister and together we locked up all access ports to our house. Wielding wooden bamboo canes, we brought in the washing and hid within.

It was then, the huge beast burst into the living room and we had a battle of epic proportions. Beowulf and Grendel could not compare with the ferocity of the battle that ensued. After twelve days and three hours, I managed to slay the stupid thing by stabbing it’s eyes out with my chin-hairs of iron.

Rupa-rupanya,… hanya suatu mimpi yang ngeri…

The snake is still probably somewhere out there in the garden still, waiting. Maybe it’ll devour a neighbourhood dog or perhaps a maid might go missing and her employers would think she ran away. Whatever the case, we shall sprinkle sulfur all over the compound to keep the slithering anacondas away. Snakes are supposed to steer clear of sulfur, or so we hope.

My advice is to make sure you always have a younger sibling or a small-medium sized pet at hand. It takes time for a python to devour either and in that time, you would probably have managed to run to safety and get help.

Quick sketch,… Hellboy!

Stained

Anyone know how to get coffee stains off the car floor? Somehow I brilliantly managed to spill a bungkus and quite a bit of it seeped off the mat and onto the floor. Dabbing it has somehow stemmed the staining but do ants infest cars? I can only be thankful that it is coffee (for I enjoy the smell) and not something like celery juice.

Bleargh.

P1 to make KL a worldclass wireless metropolitan.

January 21, 2008 - 6:50 am No Comments

It all goes well, P1 will have achieved their goal of seeding 1,500 hotspots in KL. According to their newsletter this ’should’ happen by May 2008. Hope this does something for the dismal drop in GreenPacket share prices. T_T. (2.38).

Still eagerly awaiting the arrival of WiMAX so I can give the finger to Streamyx and hop unto the wireless broadbandwagon but things ain’t happening.

Big Bro

Everyday in the papers you find more and more incidents of robbery and rape. Because of this, there has been a call for more CCTV security measures to be install at all public locations.

I don’t really see how this helps all that much.

Firstly a CCTV system HAS to be monitored and knowing most establishments, they’re probably only going to have an aging security guard staring at all the monitors (if at all). More often that not, the cameras that litter the place are duds and aren’t linked to any monitoring system.

Even if you did have a whole building wired up with CCTVs (I find this disturbingly creepy), there is no guarantee that it is a preventive measure. The only time people check up on security footage is normally ‘AFTER’ the crime has been committed. By then, a child has been raped and murdered or worse.

Insisting on CCTV systems everywhere does indeed help but for the most part, it is a false sense of security. People would relax if they believe they’re safely under watch and then fall prey to the criminal element out there. Banks and goldsmith shops all have camera systems, have you seen it deterring robbers? All you need is a good nylon stockings and you’ve already rendered a RM20,000 system useless. It’s not as though your system can sprout legs and start attacking the robbers (that would be a great idea).

Also would anyone like to work in an environment where all corridors and monitored and you’re watched by a pair of leering security guards. I doubt it.

For those out there, the only real security is being watchful, there is no substitute for that.
